What is dandruff?
Dandruff flakes are actually dead skin cells that naturally fall off the scalp, either a dry scalp or an overly oily scalp can cause excess cells to clump and fall off, forming dandruff flakes. The faster the scalp sheds dead skin, the worse dandruff becomes. A very common fungus called Malassezia which lives on the scalp of most healthy adults without causing any problems, but overgrowth of Malassezia can stimulate the scalp and cause dandruff as well.
